Sonalika Mishra, from Narasinghpur, Odisha, dreamt of the skies—and made it happen through sheer grit. After completing her schooling at Government Girls' High School, she pursued Aircraft Maintenance Engineering at Utkal Aerospace Engineering College, Bhubaneswar, followed by six months of hands-on training with Air India in Kolkata. She then completed 200 hours of rigorous flight training at Redbird Flight Training Academy and cleared all DGCA examinations to earn her Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL). In a state where female commercial pilots remain rare, Sonalika's achievement is a landmark — she is now set to serve as a First Officer (Co-Pilot) in a commercial airline, proving that for young women in Odisha, the sky is truly no limit.
Aircraft Maintenance Technicians with experience and a DGCA licence can establish independent MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) facilities that cater to private aircraft, helicopters, and charter operators. India's rapidly growing aviation market, fuelled by the UDAN scheme, which expands regional air connectivity, is creating strong demand for small-scale MRO units, especially near tier-2 and tier-3 airports. AMTs can also launch aviation training academies, technical consultancies, or aircraft parts supply businesses.
